After having moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in November I was to struggling to decide how I want to celebrate new years. Coming of the personal opinion that one should look to get new experiences as often as possible I decided to travel. Within no time I booked myself air tickets to Langkawi, a beach town in Malaysia. Problem solved! But here is the twist. A week within booking my tickets my flatmate, Sam from the US told me about planning to go to Thailand for New Years and also the world famous Full Moon Party which happens to be on 3days after. It dint take me long to put two and two together.
Thailand + New Years + Full Moon + A Crazy Crew = Guaranteed Fun
Within days I have another set of tickets booked, this time to Thailand. We were going to Koh Phangan, its an idyllic island but if the island’s white sand and clear water could speak it would tell you stories of booze, drugs and bodily fluids.
It took us 12hrs of travel which included a flight, a bus and a ferry to reach the island. This bunch of 10 twenty something spent the next 7 days exploring the good and bad that Koh Phangan had to offer. Koh Phangan has everything you can ask for, the peaceful and calm beaches to unwind and relax at and the latest thumping EDM music to party till the morning. New Years party on Haad Rin beach in Koh Phangan plays itself host to 30,000 people from all over the world. And when morning comes, the beach is littered with lost souls. A lot happens on this island, its hard to keep account of your days and nights here. On my first night here, within 5mins I had twisted by ankle, lost a toe nail and lost my flip-flops to the hold waters on the beach all in the name of having a great-f**king-time. No regrets nonetheless.
One day baby, we’ll be old
Oh baby, we’ll be old
And think of all the stories that we could have told.
In all honesty, I had the best new year’s holiday ever. By the end of these 7days, if nothing else I’m very sure of making Asaf Avidan proud. I went to this island with 10 people I had just gotten to know and I returned with 10 friends and countless stories to rejoice till the end of time.
Fortunately my flatmate and friend Sam wanted to shoot some videos along the way, so I decided to give him a helping hand. After much delay, I finally sat down to put together some of these videos to give you a glimpse of what 7 days of Koh Phangan, Thailand had to offer.
